You might have heard about this remarkable man, Steve Posselt, making an 8-week kayaking mission to Canberra in a bid to make the Federal Government take climate change seriously.
This Saturday, our friends at Newcastle Climate Justice Uprising and Hunter Community Environment Centre will be hosting a welcoming party for Steve at Horseshoe beach, to celebrate his stop in Newcastle, still the world's biggest coal port.
When: 10 - 11.30am Saturday 21st January
Where: Horseshoe beach
Wear hot colours: red, yellow, orange. Bring banners and placards, or pick up one of the provided placards when you arrive to wave as Steve pulls up onto the beach. Bring your watercraft of any description!
We will hear from Steve about what has compelled him to make the journey and from Newcastle Climate Justice Uprising about how you can get involved locally in the fight for a safe climate future.
Steve will paddle down the NSW coast, stopping to give public talks about the Climate Emergency Declaration and collect petition signatures, then he'll drag his kayak over 170 km over mountainous terrain to Canberra to deliver the petition to Parliament.
You can sign the petition now at climateemergencydeclaratio
