Throughout history, there are some rare and powerful moments that build the power of the people and shift the course of our collective futures. March 24 – one year before the next NSW election – will be one of those days.

On this day we will ask: Do you want more coal and gas? Or Clean Water, Clean Air and Clean Energy? Get on the train and on the right side of history! It's #Time2 Choose a brighter future!

Please also RSVP and invite all your friends to the rally itself via this main Time2Choose Facebook Page.

No Gasfield off Newcastle! Rally Sunday 18th March

The following email is from our friends at the Wilderness Society Newcastle - please sign the petition and come along the rally at Nobby’s Beach this Sunday 18 March, at 1pm. RSVP here.

SIGN PETITION

Have you heard?

The beautiful NSW coastline, near Newcastle and the Central Coast, could be the site of a new offshore gasfield.

The Newcastle Herald reported today that seismic testing — the first step towards dotting the horizon with giant drilling platforms — could start as early as this Friday.

Tell Advent Energy that seismic testing, or an industrial gas field, is not welcome off the beautiful NSW coast.

SIGN PETITION

Advent Energy has been approved to use a vessel called “Pacific Conquest” to blast sonic waves into the ocean floor to assess for gas resources. We couldn’t make this stuff up!

Seismic testing has been proven to impair the navigation skills of dolphins and whales; yet, the approved period for this testing coincides with start of the Humpback whale’s northern migration.

Seismic testing of our coastal environment could begin as early as next week!

Please sign the petition to support Humpback whales and end the threat of gasfields off the NSW coastline.

The beautiful coastlines of NSW support thriving tourism and fishery industries and should not be risked for gas exploration.

Advent’s exploration lease runs 120km along the beautiful coastline between Sydney and Newcastle. If Advent Energy is not stopped, a gasfield off the coast of these highly populated areas would be a disaster-waiting-to-happen.

As the world moves away from fossil fuels, NSW must look to safe renewable energy options, not entrench our reliance on dangerous fossil fuels, like offshore gas.

Nine years ago, there was a strong community backlash to seismic testing for gas off Port Stephens. This is the first time they’ve been back. Let’s make sure the gas drillers know we want them to leave our coast alone — this time for good.

Time2Choose Rally Sydney March 24

#Time2Choose rally Sydney Saturday 24th March

On March 24, it is #Time2Choose. We invite you, your colleagues, your family, your friends and your neighbours to choose the future of NSW at a massive rally in the Sydney CBD.

NSW has a choice. It’s #Time2Choose clean water, air and clean energy over coal seam gas and coal. It’s time to back the farmers and First Nations people against these threats.

Join with hundreds of people from Newcastle and the Hunter on the train to Sydney on 24 March, for the historic #Time2Choose rally. Pancakes and coffee will be available from 8am at Hamilton Station, for the train just before 9am.

This day will be a powerful moment unifying many NGOs and their campaigns against coal and gas across NSW, and campaigns to #Repower our energy system with clean energy from the sun and wind.

One year out from the next NSW election—thousands of people will put our politicians on notice. Together, we will take stories of the frontline battles to our politicians and put coal seam gas, coal, climate and renewable energy on the political agenda.

We have the solutions—all we are lacking is the political will.

Help make history! Join hundreds on the train from Newcastle to Sydney and thousands more in the city, to kickstart this positive campaign for the future.

P.S. If you want to go the next step to make this event a powerful day, sign up now to help us call our supporters and get huge numbers there.

What is the Carrington Sun Fundy campaign?

Carrington Bowling Club is one of the last surviving bowlos in Newcastle. And we want to help this local treasure stick around a long time. But the club's energy bills are up to $4000 a month. So Climate Action Newcastle have teamed up with CBC to raise the funds needed to put a full bank of solar panels on the bowling club roof. CBC will save money (>$100k in 4 years!) while it generates more clean energy. Win win!

Rock to Block - #Stop Adani Fundraiser

Fundraising gig at the Croatian Wickham Sports Club - Friday 24th November

Our friends over at the Newcastle Climate Justice Uprising have organised 'Rock to Block' to fundraise for the Stop Adani campaign - a lot of great bands from 5pm - so make it back to back good times weekends for good causes!

Join in celebration of this endeavour and to #StopAdani!

The StopAdani campaign has swept across Australia, with hundreds of communities speaking out against what would be an epic economic and environmental failure.

The Newcastle Climate Justice Uprising collective and local students will be embarking on a trip to the frontlines for an environmentally just future – a voyage in the name of protecting the Great Barrier Reef, the sacred country of First Nations people and to champion sustainability and community resilience.

Australia is calling for a transition away from fossil fuels; we are calling for justice for farmers, workers, families and our beautiful Aussie country.

The Adani mine flies in the face of these values, but through community action and collaboration we can pull this train around and take a step towards a brighter, cleaner and abundant future.

Come along and join in the celebration of this endeavour to #StopAdani!
